With two stage barrel turned and belled at the muzzle, octagonal breech punched with angled lines at the rear and bead work at the forepart, engraved tang, signed border engraved flat beveled lock, stepped tail with safety bolt, figured half stock with vacant escutcheon and checkered wrist, border engraved mounts comprising trigger-guard incorporating the bayonet release and decorated with a flower-head on the bow, butt-plate tang with a banner and flower-head motif, original brass-tipped ramrod with worm, light patination on the bayonet, a handsome and high condition blunderbuss.

A John Dawkes is recorded as working in Birmingham from 1766.
